Round 4 – Seniors Minor 2nd Grade

On Sunday Shoalhaven Mariners Minor 2nd grade travelled to Cringila to take on Wollongong Cardinals A side, one of the strongest teams in the competition.

Mariners held their own for the first two innings with strong fielding performance from David Crowley at short stop for his first time with a nice play over to first base and taking a difficult catch. Player/Coach Tony Burgess shut down one of the innings taking a good catch in centerfield.

Unfortunately from there Cardinals A team showed why they are the front runners lighting up the field with great batting bringing in 6 runs in the third innings.

With a great pitching performance from new comer Ben B2 Campbell starting the game was then relieved by Larissa El-Helou. Larissa El-Helou who has been away from the game for 15 years was asked to close out the game for her first game back doing a tremendous job.

Mariners showed their never say die attitude even with the game getting beyond Mariners reach, Stephen Pearson produced the hit of the game for Mariners in the last inning punching one out to centerfield.

The score didn’t show the closeness of the game with Cardinals taking the win 13-3.

Hits went to Chris Keith and Stephen Pearson. Pitchers Ben B2 Campbell 81 pitches with 44 strikes and 3 strikeouts and Larissa El-Helou 40 pitches 23 strikes and 1 strikeout.

Catching duties were shared between Stephen Pearson and Kalysta Palmer both doing a commendable job.
