Mariners 3rd grade were the away team so took the field first. They started strongly with runs scored by Kayley Ehrig and Ben Elliott after a good 2 base hit by Ben. Dapto Chiefs responded with two runs of their own.
In the second innings Mariners were unable to add to the score after some strong Chief’s pitching. Chiefs kept the pressure on after a hit batted in a third run.
The third innings saw neither team add to the score.
In the fourth, Mariners came out determined to turn the tables. Some hard running forcing errors and a hit Stephen Pearson saw Mariners bat through the line up. Runs were scored by Ben Elliott, Andrew Provest, Stephen Pearson and Matt Forster. Again, Dapto Chiefs accepted the challenge. With four hits they batted in 5 runs before Mariners managed to end their innings.
The final innings saw 6 batters face the plate. Only one hit by Gabe Tate was not enough to add to Mariners total of 6 runs. Dapto ended the game winning 8-6.
Andrew Provest pitched the whole game throwing 96 pitches for 46 strikes and 5 strikeouts. Hits went to Degan Brekelmans, Ben Elliott(2B), Stephen Pearson and Gabe Tate.
Mariners 4th grade and Mariners 5th Grade games were washed out on Sunday. Team members were able to enjoy a wet family day.
