Round 4 – 2nd Grade Mariners

Round 4 – 2nd Grade Mariners

On Saturday The Shoalhaven Mariners 2nd grade returned to the winners circle, with a dominant 9 – 0 performance against the Dapto Chiefs at Hector Harvey park. The Chiefs were never in the game as Mariners pitching dominated the Chiefs hitters from start to finish. Starting pitcher Bailey Biden threw to just 2 more than the minimum in his 5 innings of work, giving up only one hit and striking out 4.

Relief pitcher Brenton McMahon was good too in his two innings of work, facing just two more than the minimum striking out three. The Mariners were flawless in the field as well with pivots Michael Vine and Marcus Atkinson doing the heavy lifting.

The big story for the Mariners was their bats came alive as they’ve been slow to get going this season. Although strike outs are still a problem for the team, Mariners hitters did a great job and had a day out with 7 hits in this game. Hits going to Kai Meuronen 2 (2B), Brenton McMahon (2B), Bailey Biden (2B), Lee Lawson, Gabe Tate and Andrew Provest.

Due to the Covid shortened season this year the Mariners will need to continue on their winning
ways as they take on the Berkeley Eagles at Fred Finch park in round 5.
