2021 Round 1 – 6th Grade Mariners

With Mariners hosting their first game of the season at Ison Park Mariners 6th grade knew it was going to be a tall order to be competitive. As the team mainly consist of new players to the game and juniors who are playing in the senior league for the first time.

Mariners took to the field first innings. With Riley Mason starting on the mound he did well striking out three batters but not before Northern Pirates manage to put four runs on the board.

Mariners first turn to bat showed some good signs with Dan Miranda having a nice hit to centre field but unfortunately not be able to convert it into runs.

Second innings Pirates put on another four runs with some unfortunate mistakes in the field.

Mariners turn to bat did get to trouble the scorers.

The rest of the game flowed on from there with Pirates tacking runs on every inning and Mariners get shut down with the bats.

Every inning showed improvement from the new players were they were learning and getting more confident.

It was great to see that Pirates helped out our player and our players never dropping their heads even when the score line started to blow out. With pirates eventually running away with it 22 to 1.

High lights were a nice double play by relief pitcher Ben Quiney and new comer to mariners Carmen Wallace-Mitchell scoring a run.
